The mission of the Health and Physical Education Department is to foster and promote an understanding of the fundamental skills and relevant principles of health education and physical education in all CMS students. Students will develop a respect and appreciation for the multiple benefits of lifelong adherence to a physically active and healthy lifestyle through engaging health education and physical education instruction.
Health Education Health education is the state of complete physical, mental and social well-being of all students. Health is neither static nor single dimensional. Through our Healthful Living Education program, a planned sequential K-12 curriculum that is part of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, CMS provides systemic strategies to improve health knowledge, attitudes, skills and behavior. CMS Health Education is Health Educators interacting with students helping them live healthier lives!
Physical Education Movement is spontaneous. The refinement and perfection of movement is vital in delivering a quality physical education program as an integral part of the total education process. At CMS, quality physical education has a definite purpose, has long-term goals, and is developmentally appropriate. Our curriculum utilizes learning in the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains in a play or movement exploration setting to achieve specific outcomes. Our physical educators are devoted role models who can make a difference in their student’s lives!
